Cutback MC 250

ASTM D2027

MC-250 is a medium curing cutback made by blending bitumen with a kerosene-type solvent. The number gives its minimum kinematic viscosity at 60°C (250–500 mm²/s), so MC-250 is a heavier grade that holds more binder on the surface.

Uses

Where Cutback MC 250 is used

Cutback bitumen is bitumen blended with a petroleum solvent so it can be applied at low temperatures. Once laid, the solvent evaporates and leaves the binder behind. The solvent type sets the curing speed.

Storage & Handling

Storing Cutback MC 250

Temperature

Temperature: Store and apply at the lowest temperature that gives a workable viscosity. Heating drives off solvent and raises fire risk.

Containers

Containers: Keep in closed, sealed tanks or drums to stop solvent evaporating, which changes the grade.

Fire safety

Fire safety: Cutbacks contain flammable solvent. Keep them away from open flames and sparks, earth the equipment, and keep fire extinguishers at hand.

Ventilation

Ventilation: Store in well-ventilated areas and avoid breathing vapours. Follow local rules on VOC emissions.
