Storage & Handling

Storing Crude Oil

Temperature

Temperature: Heat to the pumping and handling temperature on the data sheet, and avoid overheating, which increases sediment.

Tanks

Tanks: Use heated, insulated tanks with heating coils, and drain water and sludge from the tank bottom regularly.

Safety

Safety: Watch for hydrogen sulphide in tank headspace, use gas detectors and ventilate before entry.

Compatibility

Compatibility: Avoid mixing different residual fuels in one tank without a compatibility test, because blends can become unstable.
