HFMS-1
HFMS-1 is a anionic, medium-setting bitumen emulsion with a minimum binder content of 55%. It is designed to coat aggregate in mixing before breaking. No heating is needed on site, which cuts fuel costs and emissions.

Where HFMS-1 is used
Bitumen emulsion is fine droplets of bitumen dispersed in water with an emulsifier. It is applied cold, then "breaks" as the water separates, leaving a bitumen film. Cationic emulsions carry a positive charge and suit most aggregates. Anionic emulsions carry a negative charge.
- 01High-float emulsion for cold mixes and fine-graded mixes
- 02Cold application with no heating equipment on site
- 03Best suited to limestone and positively charged aggregates
- 04Road maintenance programmes and remote projects
Conforms to ASTM D977
Supplied to ASTM D977. Tested for viscosity, binder content, settlement or storage stability, sieve residue and properties of the recovered binder.

Storing HFMS-1

Temperature: Store between about 10°C and 85°C. Never let emulsion freeze, because freezing breaks it irreversibly. Never heat it above 85°C.

Tanks: Use clean vertical tanks with gentle circulation or periodic stirring. Never mix cationic and anionic emulsions, because they break on contact.

Handling: Pump with low-shear pumps and avoid air entrainment. Excessive shear or agitation can cause premature breaking.

Shelf life: Use within the period stated on the data sheet, typically weeks to a few months. Stir or circulate before use if it has been standing.
