Bitumen 90/40
Oxidized bitumen 90/40 has a softening point of about 90°C and a penetration of about 40 dmm. It balances heat resistance with enough flexibility for waterproofing and sealing work.

Where Bitumen 90/40 is used
Oxidized (air-blown) bitumen is made by blowing air through hot bitumen, which raises its softening point and makes it far less sensitive to temperature. Grades are named softening point / penetration, so 90/15 means a softening point around 90°C and a penetration around 15 dmm.

Conforms to ASTM D36 · ASTM D5
Supplied to softening point / penetration grade, tested to ASTM methods for softening point, penetration, loss on heating, solubility and flash point.

Storing Bitumen 90/40

Temperature: Store drums, cartons and bags in a cool, shaded area. Direct sun can soften and deform packages.

Stacking: Stack on pallets on level ground, and keep jumbo bags off wet surfaces.

Melting: Melt gradually in a kettle or melter with temperature control. Avoid local overheating and never add water.

Shelf life: Oxidized grades are very stable in solid form. Keep packaging closed and protected from contamination.
