PG 76-16
PG 76-16 is a Superpave performance grade binder for pavements that reach 76°C at the surface and drop to -16°C. Grades this wide usually need polymer modification to meet both the high- and low-temperature requirements.

Where PG 76-16 is used
Performance grade (PG) binders are specified by the pavement temperatures they must withstand. PG 76-22 performs from a 7-day average maximum pavement temperature of 76°C down to a minimum of -22°C.
- 01Highways and heavy-traffic routes in climates up to 76°C pavement temperature
- 02Slow and standing traffic: intersections, bus lanes, ports and toll plazas
- 03Superpave-designed asphalt mixes
- 04Long-life and perpetual pavement designs
Conforms to AASHTO M320
Supplied to AASHTO M320. Tested for rheology on the original binder, after RTFO short-term ageing and after PAV long-term ageing, with BBR low-temperature tests.

Storing PG 76-16

Temperature: Keep paving grades between roughly 140°C and 170°C in working tanks, and store at the lower end for long holds. Avoid repeated heat-up and cool-down cycles.

Tanks: Use insulated, heated steel tanks with a closed vent system. Dedicate a tank to one grade, or clean it fully between grades to avoid cross-contamination.

Safety: Water and hot bitumen must never meet, because it causes violent foaming. Use heat-resistant PPE, and keep a dry, ventilated area with no ignition sources near the vents.

Shelf life: Bitumen hardens slowly under prolonged heat. Rotate stock, avoid holding it at peak temperature, and re-test before use after long storage.
